The last time of the year that you get to spend with your mentee. A chance for all of the mentors, mentees, and their parents to come together and celebrate a semester of new friendships, lessons learned, and amazing memories!

Wanna know what it takes to ace your interview? Come to our workshop and learn from professionals at the Career Center (Read: Board will not being teaching this.)
Just wanted to give a big shout out to all of our lovely S.M.I.L.E. volunteers who helped us out at concessions for the U$C game!
Despite the crowds and the anti-win, you guys really pulled through- sexy apron and visor intact- and we really appreciate it!

Our first mentor/mentee event of the semester will be this Saturday at Codornices Park! There will be sports, games, tie dye, face painting, food, pinata, hiking and lots of other cool activities!
Cost is $3 for mentee and $5 for mentors.
Bring running shoes and a white shirt to tie-dye!

Application Process
Now that you've been through infosession and have a general sense of what SMILE is about, here's how you can apply!
1. Print and fill out the Fall 2009 Mentor Application
2. Bring the application to the interview
3. Relax! No need to dress up for the interview- it's just a way for us to get to know you and your interests. It's also an opportunity for you to ask us any lingering nagging questions or address any issues.
For those of you who were unable to make it out to our infosessions, don't worry! You can still be a mentor!

If you are here, I suspect it's because you were perhaps unwisely walking through Sproul when BAM! someone hands you a bright goldenrod paper and you couldn't pull out your cellphone in time to look distracted. You don't know what it is about the flyer- maybe it was the kitschy design or something about mentoring kids that gives you the warm and fuzzies- but it piqued your interest.
And now here you are.
So what is Project S.M.I.L.E. about?
We are a student-run one-on-one mentoring program at UC Berkeley aimed at mentoring students from Longfellow Middle School.
The key word here is mentor.
We don't just tutor. We don't just hang out. We mentor.
It's a holistic approach to building a relationship with your mentee to help him/her survive the awkwardness that is middle school and inspiring them to reach for their goals, academically, socially, personally.
Pretty good stuff, huh?
